Project Summaries

Below you will find brief descriptions of each Community Project. Please refer to the Overview page of each project to learn more.

Note that a subset of Community Projects are included in the official caGrid release you will find in the Documentation and Downloads sections. These projects are designated by the following graphic indicator:

Service Development
Introduce	Introduce is a Graphical User Interface for Service Developers creating Grid Services.
caGrid Transfer	caGrid Transfer is an Introduce Extension and supporting transfer service that enables services and clients to download and upload bulk data easily and efficiently, to and from, grid services and clients.
WS-Enumeration	WS-Enumeration provides enumeration capabilities for the Grid. An example is enumeration over query results returned by a Data Service.
WS-Notification	WS-Notification provides the capability for Grid clients to receive updates from Grid Services, as events occur.
Data Services Extension	The Data Services Extension allows service developers to create caGrid Data Services.
XML Data Services Extension	XML Data Service Extension allows service developers to create caGrid Data Services that query and retrieve XML documents managed in XML databases.
caCORE Datatype mapping extension	The caCORE Datatype Mapping Extension allows analytical service developers to configure Grid types from a caCORE-like system.

Metadata
Metadata Overview This project contains information on all metadata-related services.

Index The Index Service is the "white and yellow pages" service for the Grid. All Grid Services register with the Index Service to advertise themselves to others.

EVS The NCI Enterprise Vocabulary Services (EVS) Grid Service provides access to controlled terminology.

LexBIG The goal of the LexBIG project is to build a vocabulary server accessed through a well-structured, application programming, interface (API) capable of accessing and distributing vocabularies as commodity resources.

caDSR The Cancer Data Standards Registry and Repository (caDSR) Grid Service stores data models used in Data Services.

Metadata Model Service The Metadata Model Service (MMS) provides the capability to retrieve metadata for Grid Services.

Global Model Exchange The Global Model Exchange (GME) is a Grid Service that provides capabilities to store and retrieve XML schemas defining caGrid service datatypes.

OpenMDR openMDR is an extension of the UK CancerGrid's cgMDR metadata repository. This project provides a federated metadata repository that can be used to build caGrid data services.

Data Sharing
Data Services caGrid Data Services are a type of Grid Service that provides a standard Grid query method that returns data from a CQL query.

Federated Query Processor The Federated Query Processor service provides the capability to perform queries across multiple data services.

Tide Tide is a bittorrent style data sharing service for the Grid.

i2b2 Integration i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside) integration brings existing i2b2 data stores to the Grid as caGrid Data Services.

Security
GAARDS	GAARDS is a collection of security services, collectively known as Grid Authentication and Authorization for Reliably Distributed Services. It contains Dorian, GTS, CDS, Grid Grouper, and WebSSO.
Dorian	Dorian is the cornerstone Grid Security Service that makes available Grid login capabilities. In addition, Dorian provides the capability for institutions to easily integrate their user login systems with the Grid.
GTS	The Grid Trust Service (GTS) manages the set of trusted Certificate Authorities that comprise a Grid.
CDS	The Credential Delegation Service (CDS) allows users to securely share their Grid credentials to Grid services acting on their behalf.
Grid Grouper	Grid Grouper provides the ability to assign Grid users to groups used for authorization purposes.
WebSSO	WebSSO provides a Web Single Sign-On (WebSSO) Framework that integrates with Grid security.
Authentication Service	The Authentication Service allows organizations to integrate their existing LDAP, or other user authentication applications, with caGrid.

Workflow
Workflow Overview Workflow provides capabilities to pipeline Grid services, sending the output of one Grid service to another.

BPEL Workflow BPEL Workflow provides support for running BPEL-based workflows on the Grid.

Taverna Workflow The Taverna Workflow Service provides support for running and executing workflows of caGrid services using Taverna.

caOS caOS is a service choreography system for the Grid.

Grid Visualization
caGrid Portal The caGrid Portal is a web application that allows users to view a map of Grid services, create queries for data services, and more.

Service Deployment

caGrid Console Servlet The CaGrid Console Servlet is an enhanced Axis console for caGrid/globus deployments.
