Logging on to the Grid
The GAARDS UI provides the ability to create and manage grid proxies/credentials. To obtain grid credentials, use the following steps.
- Click the Login button on the toolbar in the GAARDS UI to open the Create Proxy window (see below).
- From the Identity Federation Service drop down, select https://training.cagrid.org:8443/wsrf/services/cagrid/Dorian
. - The Lifetime drop downs specify for how long your credentials are valid. Select 12 hours here.
- The Delegation Path Length text fields specifies how many times your credentials can be delegated. Delegating your credentials gives another party the ability to act on you behalf or as you. For example, if you allow a delegation path length of 1, you allow a grid service you connect with to connect to another grid service as you. However, the second grid service would not be able to connect to another grid service as you. By default, the delegation path length is set to 0, and in most cases it will not need to be increased. We will use a delegation path length of 0 for this tutorial.
- From the Identity Provider drop down select training.cagrid.org.
- In the User Id text field enter the username you specified when you registered with Dorian.
- In the Password text field enter the password you specified when you registered with Dorian.
- Click the Authenticate button, this will log you onto the grid.
Upon logging in successfully a window containing the details of your grid credentials will be displayed.
- Click the Set Default button. This will instruct Globus to use the credentials you just created when communicating with grid services.
- Click the Close button.
