caGrid Deprecation Policy

What May be Deprecated

Deprecation is possible at any of three levels:

  • API-level - all caGrid APIs (and configuration formats) are unstable and could change between point releases, unless explicitly called-out as stable in the published deprecation plan. Beginning with caGrid 1.2, all releases include a Javadoc.
  • Service-level - a core caGrid service is expected to be retired or will not be backward compatible in a future release.
  • Grid-level - a change to the overarching grid service specifications (e.g. final WSRF standards that are incompatible with current implementation).

Notification to Developers

A deprecation plan will be published prior to each caGrid release, beginning with 1.3. The deprecation plan will specify:

  • Stable APIs
  • Retired or backwards-incompatible Services
  • Grid protocol changes
