caGrid Deprecation Policy

What May be Deprecated

Deprecation is possible at any of three levels:

  • API Level: all caGrid APIs (and configuration formats) are unstable and could change between point releases unless explicitly described as stable in the published deprecation plan. Beginning with caGrid 1.2, all releases include a Javadoc.
  • Service Level: a core caGrid service is expected to be retired or will not be backward compatible in a future release.
  • Grid Level: a change to the overarching grid service specifications (e.g. final WSRF standards that are incompatible with current implementation).

Notification to Developers

A deprecation plan will be published prior to each caGrid release, beginning with 1.3. The deprecation plan will specify:

  • Stable APIs
  • Retired or backwards-incompatible services
  • Grid protocol changes
